Drivers Education in Ohio

A driving license can be obtained only after the completion of a course in drivers’ education in Ohio, if the applicant is less than eighteen years old. It is important that teenagers opt for a program that is approved by the Ohio Department of Public Safety. It can be undertaken at your high school or at commercial driver training schools that are licensed by the state of Ohio. A motorized bicycle license is the only exception to this rule.

The course will comprise twenty four hours of classroom instruction. After this participants will be required to pass a written test by scoring at least seventy five percent. If you possess a temporary Ohio permit (you can have one if you are more than or equal to fifteen and a half years old), you can then move on to the next part of your certificate that consists of eight hours of drivingwith a certified instructor to practice your driving skills by applying what you have learned.Typically you will be presented with various driving conditions and your maneuverability skills will be evaluated and honed. Students are limited to four hours of instruction in one day. Driving skills instruction may not exceed three hours a day.

After you have successfully completed your course, you will be issued a certificate of completion.This certificate has to be shown to the examiner when appearing to take the driving skills portion of the test.If you are under the age of eighteen, you will also be required to have held a temporary permit for at least six months. You will also need an affidavit signed by you and one of your parents declaring that you have completed fifty hours of driving practice.

Ohio license requirements mandate non-residents to mail or fax their original driver education certificate to Ohio department of Public safety, even if they hold a valid license from some other stateas long as they are under eighteen years of age.  This certificate will be evaluated in terms of number of hours of classroom training and behind the wheel exercise. If it meets Ohio’s requirements, you will be issued a letter of approval for a BMV Ohio license test. If it does not, you will be given partial credit for your course in drivers’ education in Ohio.

This course is not necessary you are above eighteen years of age. But if you do attend one, you will learn valuable skills and a discount on your insurance premiums.
