North Carolina Driving License Renewal
Driver’s licenses are a necessary document to carry with you if you wish to drive legally. Much like other documents, driving licenses are valid for a particular period of time. In North Carolina, driving license renewal must be completed annually in order for you to continue driving. Otherwise, you may be penalized with fines and a suspension of your driving privileges.
The North Carolina driving license renewal is a fairly straightforward process, and is handled by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Licenses can be valid for more than a year, and are normally set to expire on the individual’s birthday. However, you can apply for renewal as early as 180 days before the actual expiration date on your license. The DMV, which maintains a record of all licenses, sends out a reminder notice via mail to the individual outlining the number of valid years left on the individual’s license. While this reminder is important, it is not required to renew.
You can undertake the North Carolina driving license renewal by approaching your local branch of the DMV. In the first scenario, you must carry your current license, whether it is expired or valid. If you do not have your license at the time of renewal, you must present two other documents for identification. These can be a valid passport, a birth certificate, or a high school document as well. You will also have to retake the sign and vision test to ensure that you are aware of road safety laws and your vision meets the state’s standards for driving. After this, you will simply have to pay a particular fee according to your class of license and the number of valid years still remaining on it. In North Carolina, payments can only be made via cash, money order, or personal checks. No other form of payment is accepted.
If you have been residing outside the state of North Carolina for more than 30 days, you can also renew your license via mail. You will have to submit a request for renewal to the DMV.
